Twenty years ago I (literally) stumbled into a Pilates studio. That's when I learned that the quality of my movements effects the quality of my life. Since that time, I haves pursued relief from post-polio symptoms of pain and instability by studying and then teaching self-care movement techniques such as Pilates, Yoga Tune-Up and the MELT Method. All of these techniques have value and each one contributes to the quality of my life. However, Essential Somatics has delivered a level of comfort and function for me - and my clients - that has been life-changing. I can't wait to share what I've learned with you.
I am located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago where I offer both in person and online classes to individuals and small groups.
I specialize in teaching people easy-to-do techniques that have powerful benefits for restoring quality of life and improving ease of movement. Using these techniques I have helped a client recover movement of a frozen shoulder. I taught ladies who knit and needlepoint how to relieve their neck and shoulder pain. I coached a dental hygienist how to untwist from her work-related repetitive posture. I have helped a seventy year old gentleman improve the alignment of his forward head and shoulders. One of my student used these techniques to prepare her body for a total knee replacement and then used the same techniques to easily recover from that surgery. I have taught a client with scoliosis how to breathe without pain. And I have taught many folks how to achieve relief from the aches and pains commonly accepted as part of “ageing”.
Nothing is as much fun for me as seeing the look of recognition on a client’s face as they connect with their own ability to sense, adjust, and achieve ease of movement and comfort - improving the quality of their movement and improving the quality of their life!
